Privacy & Data Protection

Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information CampusHub collects, why we use it, how it is protected, when it may be shared, how long it is kept, and the choices available to you.

Effective date: 19 September 2026

1. Scope of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to CampusHub services provided through campushub.ng, the CampusHub Android application, the progressive web app (PWA), and related CampusHub features and services.

By using CampusHub, you acknowledge that information will be processed as described in this policy. Where consent is required by applicable law, CampusHub will request it before carrying out the relevant processing.

2. Information We Collect

Account and profile information

Depending on the information you provide and the features you use, this may include your name, username, email address, phone number, profile photo, institution, role, biography, interests, and other profile information.

Content you create or submit

We process content you choose to submit to CampusHub, including posts, comments, reactions, messages, profile information, uploaded images or documents, event-related information, and other user-generated content.

Messaging information

When you use CampusHub chat, we process the messages and related metadata necessary to deliver and synchronize conversations, such as sender, recipient or conversation identifiers, timestamps, delivery state, and message identifiers.

Device, app and technical information

We may process information such as device type, operating system, app/browser information, IP address, session information, push-notification token, diagnostic information, login activity, and technical data needed to secure and operate the service.

Usage information

CampusHub may process information about how features are used, such as pages or functions accessed, notifications opened, interactions with posts, and other activity necessary to provide, improve, secure and troubleshoot the service.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • create, authenticate and maintain user accounts;
  • provide profiles, feeds, campus/community content, people and institution discovery;
  • deliver private messages and synchronize conversations;
  • send in-app and push notifications;
  • store selected data locally so supported features can remain useful with limited or no connectivity;
  • protect CampusHub against fraud, abuse, spam, security threats and unauthorized access;
  • respond to support requests and troubleshoot technical problems;
  • enforce applicable terms, community rules and legal requirements;
  • maintain, analyze and improve CampusHub features and performance.

4. When Information May Be Shared

CampusHub does not sell personal information to advertisers. Information may be shared only where reasonably necessary for the service, including:

  • With other users: information you choose to make visible through your profile, posts, comments, reactions or other community features may be visible to the relevant CampusHub audience.
  • With service providers: we may use infrastructure, hosting, security, messaging, notification and technical service providers to operate CampusHub.
  • With Firebase Cloud Messaging: push-notification delivery on Android uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), which processes a device/app registration token and notification delivery information needed to send notifications.
  • For legal and safety reasons: information may be disclosed when reasonably required to comply with applicable law, a lawful request, protect users, investigate abuse, enforce rights, or protect the integrity of CampusHub.
  • Business transfers: if CampusHub is reorganized, acquired, merged or transferred, information may be transferred subject to appropriate legal protections.

Some service providers may process data outside your country. Where applicable, we take reasonable steps to use providers and safeguards appropriate to the service being delivered.

5. Private Messages and User-Generated Content

Chat messages are intended for the participants in the relevant conversation and are not displayed as public posts. However, CampusHub systems must process message content and related metadata to store, deliver, synchronize, protect and troubleshoot the messaging service.

Public or audience-visible content such as posts, comments, reactions and profile details may be visible to other CampusHub users according to the feature and your account settings.

Please note: CampusHub does not claim that chats are end-to-end encrypted unless a specific feature explicitly states that they are.

6. Offline Features and Information Stored on Your Device

CampusHub includes offline-capable features. To make previously accessed areas available without an internet connection, the app or browser may store selected information locally on your device. This can include:

  • previously loaded pages and interface files;
  • saved conversation lists and chat history;
  • message drafts and messages waiting to be sent;
  • saved feed, profile or notification snapshots;
  • timestamps and synchronization status.

Pending actions may synchronize with CampusHub servers when your connection returns. Local CampusHub data is cleared or invalidated in supported logout flows, and can also be removed by uninstalling the app or clearing the app/browser storage on your device.

7. Push Notifications

If you allow notifications, CampusHub may send alerts for messages, comments, follows, reactions, account updates and other relevant activity. Android push notifications are delivered using Firebase Cloud Messaging.

You can control notification permission from your device settings. Disabling push notifications does not prevent you from viewing notifications inside CampusHub.

8. Cookies, Sessions and Similar Technologies

CampusHub uses session cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, maintain security, remember necessary app state and provide core functionality. The app may also use browser storage, IndexedDB, service-worker caches and native app storage for supported offline features.

These technologies are used primarily for authentication, security, performance, synchronization and offline functionality rather than third-party advertising.

9. How Long We Keep Information

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably needed to operate your account, provide CampusHub services, maintain security, resolve disputes and meet legal obligations.

Different categories of data may have different retention periods. Security logs, delivery records or backups may be retained for a limited period even after account deletion where necessary for security, legal compliance, fraud prevention, disaster recovery or system integrity.

10. Account Deletion and 30-Day Recovery Period

You can request deletion of your CampusHub account from your profile/account deletion area or through the public account-deletion page.

30-day grace period: after you request account deletion, CampusHub schedules the account for deletion 30 days later. During this period you can return to CampusHub and cancel the deletion request.

If the deletion request is not cancelled before the scheduled date, the account and directly associated account data will be deleted or otherwise removed in accordance with CampusHub's deletion process, subject to limited information that may need to be retained for legal, security, fraud-prevention or backup purposes.

Manage account deletion

11. Security

CampusHub uses reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect user information. These include HTTPS transport, authenticated sessions, server-side authorization checks, controlled access to systems, and security measures for app and notification integrations.

No system can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and should notify us if you believe your account has been compromised.

12. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

Depending on applicable law and the nature of your request, you may be able to:

  • review or update profile information;
  • control app notification permissions;
  • request information about personal data associated with your account;
  • request correction of inaccurate information;
  • request account deletion;
  • cancel a pending account deletion during the 30-day grace period;
  • raise a privacy or data-protection concern.

We may need to verify your identity before processing certain requests.

13. Younger Users

CampusHub is intended for users who are permitted to use the service under applicable laws and relevant institutional policies. If you believe personal information relating to a child or other protected minor has been provided without the authorization required by applicable law, please contact us so the matter can be reviewed.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when CampusHub features, service providers, legal requirements or data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when the policy changes materially.

Where appropriate, significant changes may also be communicated through CampusHub.
